The 5 Second Rule
If I could recommend just one book to change your life, this would be the book. Mel's 5 second rule is a brilliant tool that you can use to create change in any area of your life. There are few things as simple and effective as the 5 second rule. Whether you're trying to get to the gym or finish your thesis, this book will get you there by eliminating your habits of hesitating, overthinking, and holding yourself back out of fear.
Better Than Before: Mastering the Habits of Our Everyday Lives
An easy and interesting read, Gretchen intersperses strategies for building habits and how different types of people can best use them with personal tales of her own habit-building and her entertaining attempts to help those around her lead better lives.
If you aren't a meditator, this is the book that you need to read. All of the other books on this list are great but start with 10% Happier. Whether you don't meditate because you don't see the point, think it's a bunch of BS, or—like I had—have fallen prey to one of the many misconceptions about meditation (no, you don't have to stop thinking!), Dan's easy-to-read style will pull you in, make you laugh, and have you nodding along to all of the far-out-there beliefs about meditation that float around the zeitgeist. It's my hope (and Dan's) that you come out the other side willing to give it a try because the chances are very good that it will change your life—or at least make you 10% happier.
The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living A Good Life
Mark isn't afraid to call us out on all the stupid things we think and do. You'll learn valuable lessons from the Disappointment Panda and as well as why you want good problems, not no problems. The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck is great for people who don't quite understand why they aren't actually happy sitting on the couch playing video games
The Power Of Habit: Why We Do What We Do In Life And Business
Full of case studies and a little sprinkling of science, The Power of Habit breaks down what habits are, why and how they form, how businesses have ingrained habits in us without us even realizing it, and what we can do to create habits that better serve us.
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up is experiencing a resurgence in popularity and with good reason. Marie is able to clearly break down why we struggle to keep our homes tidy and how we can go about decluttering in a purposeful way. No, it may not solve all of your problems like some people claim, but I challenge you to read this book and not end up doing a bit of tidying.
Vlog Like A Boss
I picked up Vlog Like a Boss because I intend to start a YouTube channel (or already have, depending on when you're reading this), but quickly realized that most of the advice Amy gives in this book applies to all aspects of life. Though I almost never buy or reread books, I'll definitely be purchasing a physical copy and rereading it a few times a year for quite a long time. Amy is one of my biggest inspirations; if you like me, you'll like Amy. And even if you have no intention of vlogging, I still recommend reading this book. It'll help you get started with whatever it is that you've been putting off for way too long.
Amy is my personal favorite source of motivation, productivity tips, and all-around inspiring content. Along with her YouTube channel (which is amazing, btw), she also hosts Detail Therapy, a podcast where she interviews go-getters about how they go after the life that they want.
Kalyn's Coffee Talk
Kalyn has long been one of my favorite YouTubers, and her content played a big role in helping me to get my life together. Her down-to-earth podcast is pretty much like having a deep life-chat over coffee with a close friend. She's not afraid to get real and tell you all about what's going on in her life, and she serves it all up with a side of great advice.
If you haven't yet heard about how meditation changed my life, you might want to get on that. Meditation has countless benefits, from reducing anxiety to improving sleep to enhancing your focus. The Meditation Minis podcast is one of my favorite sources of guided meditations.
